With Rouzer support, House passes bill to prevent IRS from targeting Americans

With the support of Congressman David Rouzer, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5053, the Preventing IRS Abuse and Protecting Free Speech Act, to eliminate an unnecessary and confidential form non-profits are required to submit to the IRS.

Currently, the IRS requires 501 (c) organizations to submit a Schedule B form with the names and addresses of their donors.  However, the IRS does not use this form for any stated purpose.  H.R. 5053 seeks to prevent further taxpayer abuse by the IRS, especially in light of IRS employees “accidentally” leaking the National Organization of Marriage’s unredacted Schedule B form.

“The IRS has a history of violating the first amendment rights of innocent Americans.  Passage of H.R. 5053 is a vital step to reaffirming the right of every individual to free speech and will make it much more difficult for the IRS to intimidate or threaten individuals because of their political and personal beliefs.”
