Coastal
North Carolina’s 7th Congressional District is fortunate to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States which drive significant job growth and economic activity for our local coastal communities. We also count on our coastline as the first line of defense against powerful storms, and consistent beach re-nourishment projects are key to limiting the beach and structural damages these major storms would otherwise cause that would cost taxpayers much, much more on the backend. Ensuring our beaches remain in top condition is one of my main priorities. I’m proud to serve as the ranking member for the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment. This subcommittee has jurisdiction over water resources development, conservation and management, water pollution control, water infrastructure, and hazardous waste cleanup – including jurisdiction over the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As ranking member, I have been able address a number of needs for our region in Congress with a major focus on beach re-nourishment and flood protection. I am proud to be recognized as a Federal Champion by the American Flood Coalition for my record as a longtime advocate helping our communities in Southeastern North Carolina recover from major hurricanes and flooding. |
