Since our nation’s founding, agriculture has been a key component of our economy and success.  Agriculture has always been the dominant industry in North Carolina and currently contributes $96 billion to our state’s economy, far outpacing any other industry in economic output. 

For generations, North Carolina farm families have fed and clothed the world.  Our nutrient rich soil and moderate climate provide desirable growing conditions to raise crops like cotton, peanuts, soybeans, sweet potatoes, and tobacco among many others.  I'm proud to serve on the House Agriculture Committee and as a co-founder of the Congressional Agri-tourism Caucus.

Now, more than ever, America’s farm families are facing a great deal of uncertainty.  With a looming global food shortage, historic inflation, record fertilizer, record fuel costs and other input prices skyrocketing reauthorization of the Farm Bill in 2023 could not come at a more crucial time.  Through my leadership on the House Agriculture Committee, I will continue to work to ensure North Carolina farm families have the support they need to continue to feed America and the world.  Important programs including crop insurance, healthy meals for low-income families, improving economic opportunity in rural America, animal disease prevention, and promoting research and extension services for our producers will be among some of the main items considered in this legislation.
