Rouzer Statement on H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act

  • Washington, DC Office

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, with the support of Congressman David Rouzer (NC-07), the House passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act.  H.R. 2 would fix our broken asylum system, hire more Border Patrol agents and provide them with resources they need to enforce the law, reinstate successful Trump-era policies like Remain in Mexico, and force the Biden Administration to resume building the border wall.

"The Biden Administration’s open border policies have emboldened dangerous drug cartels, filled our communities with deadly drugs, and created a humanitarian crisis at our southern border," said Rouzer.  "Securing our border is a matter of national security, and our broken immigration system is jeopardizing safety in every city and state across the country.  With Title 42 ending today, H.R. 2 provides solutions to ensure our legal immigration process is respected and followed, secure our border, and keep Americans safe."

Specifically, H.R. 2:

  • Provides for effective border enforcement policies, infrastructure, and advanced technology.
  • Increases the number of Border Patrol Agents and provides bonus pay.
  • Ends Catch and Release and strengthens current laws to protect unaccompanied children from exploitation by human traffickers.
  • Reinstates the so-called Remain in Mexico provisions.
  • Resumes construction of the border wall.
  • Strengthens current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
