Election Integrity

Election integrity is foundational to our republic.  The American public must be confident that the electoral process is carried out fairly — that every vote is legitimate — otherwise trust in our sacred institutions which are critical to a civil society and the rule of law will deteriorate completely.  While elections should be carried out and controlled by states, we must have basic safeguards in place nationally to ensure confidence in our elections for federal office.

• H.R. 322 – Save Democracy Act: This legislation would enhance federal election integrity by addressing issues of concern with voter registration, the casting of ballots, and the tabulation of ballots.  Specifically, it would prohibit states from sending out unrequested absentee ballots for federal elections.  Additionally, it would require full Social Security Numbers (SSN) to register to vote in federal elections and would prohibit automatic voter registration.
  
  
• Signed Amicus Brief for United States v. Georgia: This brief was filed by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) after the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced they were filing a federal lawsuit against the state of Georgia’s election integrity bill (SB 202).  This amicus brief defends Georgia’s authority to pass updates to its election laws and highlight states’ substantial constitutional authority to regulate the times, places, and manner of conducting elections.  You can read more about the amicus brief here.

Important Votes

• Voted NAY – H.R. 1: I voted against H.R. 1 because it would federalize elections and make election fraud that much easier.
