Rouzer statement on passage of bill to repeal Obamacare, defund Planned Parenthood

Last night, with the support of Congressman David Rouzer (NC-07), the House of Representatives passed the Senate Amendment to H.R. 3762, Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act.  Originally passed by the House of the Representatives in the fall and modified by the Senate, this reconciliation bill repeals key elements of Obamacare and defunds Planned Parenthood in its entirety – both discretionary and mandatory spending.

“Since the President’s healthcare plan was signed into law in 2010, it has been the goal of conservatives to get a bill to the President’s desk that repeals this onerous and destructive law.  Due to a tremendous amount of hard work this past year, this has now been achieved,” said Congressman David Rouzer.

“This bill is the one and only legislative vehicle available, thanks to the passage of a Budget Resolution, that allows the Senate to avoid the 60 vote threshold required under their rules.  I’m very pleased that this bill also defunds every federal dollar going to Planned Parenthood.”

The healthcare portion of the bill includes measures to dismantle the employer and individual mandates, repeals the burden of the Cadillac Tax and Health Insurance Tax on small businesses, repeals the medical-device tax, cuts funding for the health-care rationing board, and stops the taxpayer bailout of insurance companies through the risk-corridor program.  If enacted into law, the bill would cut more than $500 billion in spending.

Last night’s House vote marks the first time a piece of legislation to repeal Obamacare will go to President’s desk.
