Visiting the Brigade Boys & Girls Club
I had a great time visiting the dedicated team at Brigade Boys & Girls Club. Encouraging kids to reach their full potential is critical to their success, and I thank the Brigade Club for everything they are doing to support our youth in Wilmington!

Touring Wilmington Grill
Thanks to the folks at Wilmington Grill for the tour of their facility and discussion about inflation and other challenges that employers face today. Inflation fueled by Washington overspending and easy money made available by the Federal Reserve for such a long time, paying people not to work, and COVID lockdowns are all drivers of the supply chain disruptions and increasing costs that are burdening American small businesses and families. In addition to reining in spending, Congress must enact policies that incentivize work, investment and production.

Helpful Updates
Updates from the IRS
Don't Wait to File: The IRS encourages taxpayers who have yet to file their 2021 tax return – including those who requested an extension of time – to file a complete and accurate return electronically as early as possible once they have all their information together. Filing electronically as soon as possible can also help taxpayers who did not file an extension and missed the April deadline to avoid further penalties and interest if they owe taxes.
Free Webinar: On July 20th at 2:00 p.m. ET, the IRS is hosting a free 60-minute webinar for anyone interested in learning about ID Theft and ways to protect yourself from tax-related scams. To register for the event, visit the Internal Revenue Service Webinar Registration website.
Updates from FEMA
Prepare for Peak 2022 Hurricane Season: Heading into what is projected to be an above-average hurricane season, FEMA is urging residents to prepare before the peak of hurricane season. They are encouraging everyone to download their new FEMA mobile app to help users take charge of disasters. Additionally, visit Ready.gov for helpful hurricane preparedness tips.
Mobile Office Hours
If you are having trouble with issues handled by federal agencies, my staff and I may be able to help resolve the problem or get the information you need. We have Mobile Office Hours across NC-07 to assist with these issues and our upcoming dates will be in August. In addition to our Mobile Office Hours, we have three full time offices in New Hanover County, Johnston County, Brunswick County, and Washington, DC. These four offices are always open during regular business hours, except for federal holidays. Please click here for Mobile Office Hour locations and click here for our full-time office information.
This Week's Good News Story
For this week's good news story, I would like to recognize the 'Cape Fear Karate Kid', Shelby Milliken. According to WWAY, Shelby is a "3-time AAU national champion, and a 3-time state champion. She’s also on the ballot for the Isshin-ryu hall of fame, and a candidate for the 12u female athlete of the year. Up next is the Junior Olympics in Greensboro." Congratulations on your achievements at such a young age, Shelby! Your hard work and determination is inspiring!
