I recently introduced legislation to move the administration of the Food for Peace program from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) along with Congressmen Tracey Mann (KS-01), Rick Crawford (AR-01), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), and House Agriculture Committee Chairman G.T. Thompson (PA-15). Senators Jerry Moran (R-KS) and John Hoeven (R-ND) introduced companion legislation in the Senate as well.
Food aid programs such as Food for Peace and McGovern-Dole were designed to highlight the generosity and ingenuity of American farmers while addressing global hunger. By transitioning these programs to the USDA, we can make them stronger, improving their efficiency and effectiveness while ensuring U.S. agricultural products reach those who need it.
President Trump has committed to cut wasteful spending, streamlining federal bureaucracy, and ensuring every taxpayer dollar is used efficiently and responsibly. Moving food aid programs from USAID to USDA aligns with this vision of advancing the Golden Age of America. This is a move I have long supported.
