Honoring Veterans Day

North Carolina is home to a large community of veterans, and we are proud to have a rich tradition of military service.  Veterans Day is an opportunity to reflect on the the service of these brave men and women, and to express our utmost support and aid for their service to this country.  Because of the sacrifice and heroism of our veterans and servicemembers, we can live free in the United States.

It's an honor to serve as a voice for North Carolina veterans in Congress.  More can and should be done to improve the care and lives of our veterans, and I will continue to do my part to ensure our veterans are well-supported.

To every veteran across this great land and their loved ones, I thank you.  May God always bless you, our nation's heroes!

Veterans Day 2022

Happy Birthday U.S. Marine Corps!

On November 10th, the United States Marine Corps celebrated 247 years of excellence and bravery in service to our nation. Special thanks to all of the Marines who call North Carolina home at Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, and Marine Corps Air Station New River.  Semper Fi!

Resources

Tropical Storm Nicole:  Southeastern North Carolina can expect to experience impacts from Tropical Storm Nicole.  Rough seas, heavy surf, rip currents, beach erosion, and episodes of tidal flooding will continue up to and through Friday.  A stray tornado is also possible.

Veterans Day:  There are many events happening in Southeastern North Carolina to honor and celebrate veterans day.  Check out this WECT article for a full list of events in our area!

Hiring a Wounded Warrior Fellow: I'm seeking a wounded warrior or medically retired veteran for a position in our Bolivia, North Carolina district office.  The person chosen for the fellowship will work with military and veteran constituents to handle veterans-related casework and act as a facilitator between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.  Interested veterans should go to https://www.usajobs.gov/job/676802900 for more details and information on how to apply.

1898 Commemoration: New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington are joining several local organizations and partners to commemorate the 124th anniversary of the 1898 Wilmington Massacre and Coup d’état.  Check out this flyer from the City of Wilmington for a list of events, and click here to read more about the 1898 Massacre and Coup d’état.

This Week's Good News Story

For this week's good news story, I would like to recognize two local veterans honored in a new display at the Wilmington VA Health Care Center.  According to WECT, "A medal of honor recipient display can now be seen at the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Health Care Center. The display is dedicated to Edwin Anderson and Eugene Ashley, who were both born in Wilmington and received the Medal of Honor. You can also see memorabilia from the eras in which Anderson and Ashley served, including World War 2, the Korean War and the Vietnam War."  Please join me in thanking Mr. Anderson and Mr. Ashley for their service!

Closing Thoughts...
