Dear Friend,
Following the increase in anti-American, antisemitic mob gatherings occupying college campuses across the country, I introduced legislation to crack down on destructive behavior at these protests. The House of Representatives also voted to condemn President Biden's open border policies and received information identifying airport locations used by the Biden Administration to help facilitate illegal immigration. Following the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel, there's been a staggering increase in antisemitism and threats against the Jewish community. Antisemitic, pro-terrorist mobs have occupied college campuses across the country, and radical anti-Israel activists have intentionally blocked major roads and highways as a form of protest. There are also cases of foreign students who are here on visas having been involved in planning, supporting, and attending these destructive gatherings which are in direct conflict with university directives, student conduct policies, and the rule of law. In response to those who come to our country to incite hatred for America, I joined with my colleague, Representative Beth Van Duyne (TX-24) in introducing H.R. 8221, the Hamas Supporters Have No Home Here Act. This legislation would deport aliens (legal and illegal) who participate in criminal activity during pro-terrorism or antisemitic demonstrations, including those currently occupying and vandalizing university campuses across the country. A number of them are here on student visas.
Earlier this year, I also introduced H.R. 6926, the Safe and Open Streets Act, which would make it a federal crime to purposely obstruct, delay, or affect commerce by blocking a public road or highway. Penalties include fines or up to five years of imprisonment. This applies to any protest on any issue or cause. It's time to restore law and order, protect students, and show the world there are consequences for those who exploit the freedoms we cherish. Click here or on the image below to hear more about the Safe and Open Streets Act as well as my thoughts on why we must crack down on these disruptive demonstrations.

Condemning President Biden's Open Border Policies
Since his first day in office, President Biden has done everything in his power to encourage open borders. He ended construction of the border wall, revoked President Trump’s successful Remain in Mexico policy, and ended immigration restrictions on countries associated with terrorism contrary to the law he and his administration are constitutionally charged to execute and enforce. President Biden has the power to reverse course on these policies but refuses to do so. Now, new documents prove President Biden is facilitating even more of this lawlessness.
This past week, the House Committee on Homeland Security released documents identifying more than 45 airport locations used by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to secretly fly more than 400,000 illegal immigrants into the United States — including Charlotte, North Carolina — through the unlawful Cuban, Haitian, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan (CHNV) mass-parole program. The program was officially launched in January 2023, and since then 404,000 inadmissible aliens have been paroled into the country. DHS also admitted that none of these individuals have a legal basis to enter the country. This is yet another egregious abuse of power by the Biden Administration making the ongoing border crisis even worse while trying to hide the influx of illegal immigrants reaching every corner of the United States. In stark contrast to the Biden Administration's failures, last year House Republicans passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, to stop the flow of migrants and keep Americans safe. Then, this year, with my support, House Republicans also voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas for high crimes and misdemeanors due to his willful disregard of the immigration laws on the books. Most recently, the House passed H.Res. 1112 to condemn the Biden Administration for their disastrous open border policies and hold their feet to the fire to immediately end this threat to our national security. The American people deserve safety and security, and all of these efforts have been thwarted by the Democrat majority in the Senate and the Biden Administration. Hopefully, mounting public pressure will get them to change their stance. Empowering States to Secure Southern Border Amid Barrier Disputes
Not only has the Biden Administration failed to secure our border, but they have also barred border states from doing so. In response to the Biden Administration's efforts to block states from placing physical barriers along their border with Mexico, I introduced legislation earlier this year to empower states to secure the southern border where President Biden has failed to do so.
H.R. 7479, the CONTAINER Act, would give border states the explicit authority to place temporary barriers on federal land to protect their communities and the entire United States against illegal immigration and the deadly flow of drugs. No community is immune to the drugs, sex trafficking and crime these policies are incentivizing while enriching the cartels. This bill will give border states the explicit ability to erect physical barriers to protect not only their citizens, but all of America, from President Biden’s catastrophic open-border policies.

For this week's good news story, I'm highlighting a group of Oak Island veterans who recently returned home from the Honor Flight of the Cape Fear trip to Washington, DC. Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area honors WWII, Korea War, and Vietnam War era veterans by taking them on an all-expenses-paid trip to DC for a day of remembrance as they visit the memorials and monuments built in honor of their service. According to the State Port Pilot, "Mike Cornelison, Jim Brennan, George Tietjen and John B. Bates needed a couple of days to recover from the April 20 whirlwind escapade to the nation’s capital. All four men struggled to find the right words that could do the experience justice, as each felt moved by different aspects of the adventure. More than 150 people went on the Honor Flight of the Cape Fear, including 75 veterans and their guardians." I'm proud to represent such a large community of veterans in Southeastern North Carolina and glad to hear this group of heroes enjoyed their trip and received a heartwarming homecoming reception. Please join me in thanking them for their service and sacrifice!
