Dear [salutation],
Last week in Washington, I joined my colleagues in passing the final four appropriations bills for the fiscal year: Defense; Homeland Security; Labor, Health and Human Services; and Transportation and Housing. While the Senate is expected to vote on these measures today, they have opted to extend Homeland Security (DHS) funding via a Continuing Resolution (CR) to maintain current spending levels. This may result in a brief technical government shutdown over the weekend (due to funding expiring on January 30); however, the House is prepared to vote early next week to finalize the remaining funding and fully reopen the government.
Completing these appropriations bills – rather than relying on a series of short-term extensions – is a major step toward restoring fiscal responsibility. We are ensuring our government operates with the efficiency and accountability you deserve. These bills prioritize transparency and officially align our national spending with President Trump’s initiatives, instead of extending Biden-era wasteful spending. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Southeastern North Carolina as a significant winter storm hits our region. As of the most recent forecasts, our area will experience snow followed by extremely cold temperatures beginning today and continuing through tomorrow. Extremely cold temperatures mean any precipitation will likely freeze quickly, creating dangerous road conditions.

It is advised that you complete your storm preparations as soon as possible, remain home until conditions improve, and review the resources above to help you stay safe and informed during the storm. Stay safe and warm this weekend!

In a win for the North Carolina workforce and domestic supply chains, John Deere has announced it is growing its American manufacturing footprint, highlighted by their investment of $70 million at the company’s Kernersville, North Carolina campus. This new facility marks a strategic milestone for the company, transitioning excavator production from Japan to the U.S. By localizing our manufacturing, we are proudly fulfilling our commitment to bring industry and innovation back home.

As thousands gathered in Washington for the March for Life on January 23, House Republicans took legislative action to support pro-family reforms. For many women, an unexpected pregnancy feels like an economic crisis or an end to their personal goals. To help address this, the House recently passed two common sense bills to ensure mothers do not have to choose between their future and their baby. On the House Floor, I supported the Pregnant Students’ Rights Act (H.R. 6359) and the Supporting Pregnant and Parenting Women and Families Act (H.R. 6945) to ensure young women have the support they deserve enabling them to complete their education. By supporting organizations that provide material support and advocating for academic flexibility, women who find themselves in this situation can maintain stability and stay on the path to graduation.

The Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which I voted for in July, authorized a $1,000 deposit into a "Trump Account" for every child that is a U.S. citizen and born in the U.S. between 2025 and 2028. Launching July 5, 2026, these accounts will officially open, providing every American child with a direct, tangible link to a young person’s two best financial allies — time and compounded interest. Trump Accounts will be in the name of the child and are tax-deferred with withdrawals allowed for specific purposes starting at age 18. Parents, employers and others can contribute up to $5,000 annually to these accounts. This transformative policy ensures the next generation will have a significant, tax-advantaged nest egg waiting for them at age 18. Whether the funds are used to support higher education, start a new business, or pay for a first home, this money is transformational to kickstart the American Dream with lifelong financial security.
