Dear Friend, As a nation we pause on Veterans Day to pay tribute to the millions of American men and women who have served in uniform. Our veterans have made many sacrifices, often times leaving behind family and friends, their businesses and careers, all to protect our country.  Many have made the ultimate sacrifice. In North Carolina, we are proud to have a rich tradition of military service and support for those who have served.  We are blessed to have generations of veterans call our state home.  They proudly served our nation and continue to serve our communities every day in other ways. As your Member of Congress, I take great pride in listening to their suggestions based on their personal experience with the Veterans Administration so that Congress can better address issues directly related to their care and wellbeing.   To every veteran across this great land and their families, we thank you.  We recognize the sacrifices you have made to keep America safe.  May God always protect and bless you.

Dear Friend,

As a nation we pause on Veterans Day to pay tribute to the millions of American men and women who have served in uniform.

Recognizing Service

This week, my office hosted a Badges of Honor event to help NC-07 veterans obtain the military awards and medals they may have earned but never received for their military service.  During the event, veterans and their loved ones received assistance completing the paperwork necessary to request or replace their hard-earned service medals.  More can and should be done to improve the care and lives of our veterans, and this includes helping them receive the proper recognition they deserve for so nobly serving our country.  If you are interested in receiving the same assistance, please reach out to my office here.  Watch the ABC11 story about the event below:

Working Together

I recently met with NC-07 veterans, as I periodically do, to discuss issues of importance to them.  By bringing together local veterans, as well as those who support veterans in our communities, we are able to discuss policy and VA healthcare and management issues of concern.  To stay informed about this work, click here or on the image below to sign up for my weekly updates.

Resources for Veterans

Veteran and Military Services: If you need assistance dealing with the Department of Veterans Affairs, my office can help.  I am happy to assist veterans with obtaining their military records and medals, answer questions about the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, or help those who may be experiencing difficulties with the VA Healthcare System or a claims and appeals process.

Flags: My office can help NC-07 residents purchase an American flag that can be flown over the U.S. Capitol in honor of an individual or to commemorate a special occasion or event, such as a military retirement.

Commendations: I am happy to send congratulatory letters to NC-07 residents in commemoration of special occasions such as military retirements, displays of bravery, scouting awards, recognizing a special event, and more.  I am also able to request a Presidential Greeting commemorating a birthday of eighty years or greater, or a wedding anniversary of fifty years or greater.

My staff and I are only a phone call, email, or office visit away.  If I I can assist you with any of the services listed above, please contact me at (202) 225-2731.

This Week's Good News Story

For this week's good news story, I'm recognizing Frank Berenyi, a Shallotte resident and Special Forces Veteran who created a program called "Flag for Me" to honor our nation's veterans who often go unrecognized.  According to WWAY, "Berenyi hopes that when the flag is seen flying, people will pause to honor those that served. 'I wanted to give credit to all the services. Whether it was Air Force, whether it was Navy, whether it was Army, or Marines. They all served, they all deserve recognition,' said Berenyi. The flags are made locally in Wilmington and shipped from Shallotte by Berenyi himself."  Please join me in thanking Mr. Berenyi for putting in the effort to make sure all who have served in our Armed Forces receive the year-round recognition they deserve.

Closing Thoughts...
