Urging the NC Department of Insurance to Reject Astronomical Increases in Homeowners' Insurance Rates
As you may know, on January 5th, NC Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the North Carolina Rate Bureau requested a proposed increase in homeowner insurance rates by an average of 42.2% statewide, with coastal counties potentially facing an increase of more than 99%.
In response to this, my colleagues and I sent a letter urging Commissioner Mike Causey to reject the Bureau’s proposed statewide increase in homeowners' insurance rates.
While it certainly costs more to rebuild homes damaged by storms because of rampant inflation resulting from President Biden’s failed economic policies, arbitrary astronomical increases in insurance rates are out of bounds. Such increases would negatively impact everyone who owns a home and make homeownership impossible for many. I am sure Commissioner Causey will reject these high rate increases and work to reach the best outcome attainable under Bidenflation. Every citizen concerned about these proposed rate increases should register their opposition with the NC Department of Insurance. Emailed public comments should be sent by February 2, 2024 to: 2024Homeowners@ncdoi.gov.
Visiting the Calabash Fire Department
I traveled down to one of NC-07's finest coastal communities this week to visit with the Calabash Fire Department. I enjoyed touring their firehouse as we discussed federal grants and programs available to local fire departments that can help protect our communities. Thank you for having me and for all of the work you do to keep Southeast Brunswick County safe! While in town, I also stopped by the Boundary House for lunch to enjoy everyone's favorite Calabash-style seafood!
