Dear Friend,

In the interest of transparency for the American people, with my support, House Republicans voted to open an official impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden regarding his alleged involvement in his family's foreign business dealings.  This past week, I also helped pass legislation to authorize and fund our national defense priorities.  Keep reading below for more information from this week in DC as well as new information for our coastal communities.

Voting to Open an Official Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden

During the past several months, investigations led by the House Committees on Ways & Means, Judiciary, and Oversight have produced findings strongly suggesting the involvement of President Joe Biden in his family's foreign business dealings.  These credible allegations warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives, which is why I voted to open an official impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.

Below are four key facts we know so far:

  1. President Biden repeatedly lied to the American people when he claimed he never discussed any business with his son, Hunter Biden.

  2. President Biden was a critical player in selling ‘the brand’ to Hunter’s foreign business partners and interacted with his son’s business associates 20 times, as Devon Archer, Hunter’s business partner, testified.

  3. The Biden family made millions of dollars as a result of Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. Bank records show more than $24 million in payments were directed to Biden family members and associates through numerous shell companies.

  4. The Biden family has been offered special treatment by the Biden Administration – treatment they would not otherwise receive if they were not related to the President.

The vote to open an official impeachment inquiry does not determine an outcome but sets forth the process and provides the House with the legal standing to enable the full truth to come to light.

The American people deserve to know what President Biden knew about, or if he was involved in, any of his family's corrupt influence peddling schemes devised for their own financial gain.

Strengthening Our Military

This week, I helped deliver a strong Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization (NDAA) that boosts support for our servicemembers and their families, restores focus on our war-fighting capabilities, and ensures our military is better equipped to defend our nation today and in the future.  It also reverses the Biden Administration's politicization of our national defense and rejects initiatives to infiltrate our military with woke ideology, such as having drag queens on base for entertainment.

The reality is the Biden Administration’s weak and tepid foreign policy is making the world a much more dangerous place with each passing day.  The threats from Russia, China, and Iran continue to grow, and Congress has a fundamental duty to protect the security of the United States by enhancing our national defense.

This bill improves our readiness at home and abroad while being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources.  However, this authorization legislation is just part of what is needed.  Now, Congress must pass a Defense Appropriations Bill as soon as possible to fund these critical operations and support our men and women in uniform.

Denouncing Anti-Semitism

I hope this Hanukkah season brought strength and resilience to our friends in the Jewish community during these challenging times.  As this Festival of Lights comes to an end, may we all continue to stand firmly against anti-Semitism around the world.

During a recent House Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing on the rampant anti-Semitism on college campuses across the country, presidents from Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the University of Pennsylvania refused to consider calls for the genocide of Jews as violation of their school policy.  The exchange was both telling and disgraceful.  “Elite” colleges across the country, which receive federal tax dollars, must be held accountable for not only allowing anti-Semitism but in many cases encouraging it.

I proudly voted to strongly condemn ALL forms of anti-Semitism in our country and around the world.

NC-07 Updates

Examining Infrastructure Legislation Vital to NC-07

Whether urban or rural, inland or coastal, meeting the water resources needs in communities across the country is vital to our security, safety, and economic stability.

Since 2014, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has developed and passed — on a bipartisan basis — the Water Resources Development Act, also known as WRDA.  With innovative policies to address inland and coastal flooding, and initiatives to improve our ports and inland waterways, this important legislation is critical to address the unique needs of communities in North Carolina and the entire nation.

As we gear up for WRDA 2024, I held a hearing to receive feedback from stakeholders across the country on the importance of maintaining a consistent, two-year WRDA schedule to meet the water resources needs in communities nationwide.  I was proud to welcome Surf City Mayor Teresa Batts who provided testimony on the importance of WRDA in assisting with flood control, inland waterway navigation, coastal restoration, and beach renourishment.  Click here or on the image below to view our remarks.

This Week's Good News Story

For this week's good news story, I'm highlighting the efforts of the Wilmington Fire Department who collected close to 1,300 pounds of food for Nourish NC.  According to WWAY, "the Wilmington Fire Department loaded up and delivered the non-perishable food items they have been collecting over the past several months.  This food will be used in Nourish N.C.’s market on Market St., and for their backpack program to help feed families in the Cape Fear.  Wilmington Fire Department filled two large bins with boxes and cans of food, all together weighing close to 1,300 pounds."  Please join me in thanking these local heroes — who protect our communities year-round — for taking the extra time to give back even more during the holiday season.
