2025 North Carolina

Economic Development Summit

I participated in the 2025 North Carolina Economic Development Summit alongside other members of North Carolina's Congressional Delegation. More than 100 North Carolinians attended the event hosted by Senator Thom Tillis and Congressman Richard Hudson.

It was great to join my North Carolina colleagues and others in a bipartisan conversation. Participating in the economic summit was a powerful reminder of how collaboration drives progress. Sharing the latest developments from Congress sparked meaningful dialogue, and I'm proud to see our legislative efforts in the House aligning with the President’s ambitious agenda.

Events like this one bring together the leadership, ideas, and partnerships we need to drive innovation, create good-paying jobs, and ensure every community in North Carolina can thrive.

Meeting with Fayetteville State University

I had a productive meeting with Chancellor Allison and his team from Fayetteville State University. It was great to engage with these university leaders, who are committed to academic excellence and opportunity. We discussed the importance of workforce development, innovation, and ensuring students are prepared to succeed in a competitive economy as well as their work to support the education needs of our great troops and their families stationed at Fort Bragg. I’m proud to support institutions like FSU who play a critical role in strengthening our communities and our nation.

2025 Art Competition Winner Announced

Liliana Arroyo Contreras won the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for North Carolina's Seventh Congressional District. Her piece, entitled "Black and White," depicts three soldiers in a bunker, drawn with charcoal and chalk.

Congratulations Liliana and thank you to all the middle and high school students across the district that participated!

Congressional App Challenge

Every year, middle and high school students participate in the Congressional App Challenge. This nationwide competition encourages students to learn how to code by creating their own applications, allowing students to showcase their skills in programming and computer science while supporting the next generation of STEM leaders.

Students can register and submit their app TODAY for the 2025 Congressional App Challenge. All entries must be submitted no later than 12:00 PM EST on October 30, 2025.

The winner will have their app patented at no cost to the student, receive an invitation to #HouseOfCode in Washington, D.C., and have their app featured on a display in the Capitol Building.

To be eligible to participate, students must be in middle or high school and either live or attend a school in North Carolina's Seventh Congressional District. Use this tool to determine your Congressional District.
Students can register individually or as a team of no more than four students. If registering as a team, at least half of the teammates must be eligible to participate in the district in which they are submitting their app.

This Week's Good News Story

This week I'm highlighting three St. James residents: Frank Greco, Dave Roche, and Frankie Schumaker who joined 81 fellow veterans on the fourth annual Honor Flight of the Cape Fear Area. This trip to Washington, D.C., honored veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam with visits to key memorials, culminating in an emotional return home to a cheering crowd and patriotic fanfare in Wilmington. For many, it was not only a powerful day of remembrance and healing, but also the first time their service was truly celebrated. The experience fostered camaraderie, reflection, and a long-overdue sense of appreciation for sacrifices made in service. Read more about their trip here.
