This week, Congress returned to Washington and passed the One Big Beautiful Bill to send to President Trump to sign into law! This legislation is historic on many fronts, including its investment to stimulate the American economy for years to come along with the biggest tax cut ever for lower and middle income taxpayers that are paid hourly. One Big Beautiful Bill

Heads to the President's Desk

With my support, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the One Big Beautiful Bill to provide historic tax relief to middle and working-class families and small businesses. It also included the largest investment in border security and our national defense in a generation. Fulfilling President Trump’s agenda will also rein in reckless spending, cut waste, fraud, and abuse as well as unleash energy dominance — all of which will provide jet-fuel for the economy.

The One Big Beautiful Bill is historic legislation that delivers big wins to not just the fine citizens who live in North Carolina's Seventh Congressional District, but to Americans across the country. The bill prevents the largest tax hike in history by making permanent key tax cuts that will incentivize the investment and growth necessary to stimulate the economy and increase wages.

It also secures our borders, strengthens our national defense, cuts waste fraud and abuse across the board, and supports American workers by excluding tips and overtime pay from being taxed, as well as providing tax rebates for seniors.

Additionally, this bill enhances the safety net for our farm families critical to their ability to operate, provides a major infusion of funding for our great Coast Guard, and makes significant investments to modernize our Air Traffic Control, just to name a few of the many other key provisions.

The legislation will now be sent to President Trump's desk to be signed into law.

Highlights of the One Big Beautiful Bill:

Makes the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts permanent.
Makes the largest border security investment in history, which will permanently secure our borders.
Incentivizes Made-in-America: Rewards new factories built in the U.S.A., lowers the tax rate for those producing in the U.S.A.; buy an American car and get a Made in America auto tax break.
No tax on tips; no tax on overtime.
Slashes taxes on Social Security, offering historic tax relief to seniors.
Delivers bigger paychecks.
Unleashes American energy.
Updates our air traffic control system to ensure Americans fly safely and efficiently.
Funds the Golden Dome, invests in American shipbuilding, and modernizes our military.
Protects Medicaid and SNAP for every eligible American by removing waste, fraud, and abuse within these programs.
Strengthens, secures, and sustains Medicaid for the most vulnerable.
Cuts $500 billion in Green New Deal giveaways and luxury EV credits.
Provides a historic investment in the farm safety net to protect our nation's food supply.
Permanently extends the 2017 Death Tax deduction to protect more than two million family farms.

As everyone knows, this day marks the birth of our great nation — built on the fundamental principle that our rights are bestowed by God, not government. As we celebrate with fireworks, parades, and family gatherings, let’s also remember the incredible sacrifices made by those who came before us to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

Flag Recycling Drive

My offices in Brunswick, Cumberland, and New Hanover counties will be holding an American flag recycle drive. Many have older American flags they are looking to replace. Disposing of an American flag should be done in a respectful manner. Just as there's etiquette for displaying your flag, there is also etiquette for disposing of the American flag. If you bring your flag to one of my offices, we will properly dispose of it.

This Week's Good News Story

For this week's good news story, I am recognizing Brandon Bailey, who was just sworn in as Kure Beach's new police chief, following the retirement of Michael Bowden. Bailey, a full-time officer in Kure Beach for nine years and former Burgaw officer, said he never expected to become chief. “I just wanted to be a cop, but it just worked out,” he said.
