Dear Friend,  During the past several months, investigations led by the House Committees on Ways & Means, Judiciary, and Oversight have produced findings strongly suggesting the involvement of President Joe Biden in his family's foreign business dealings.  These credible allegations warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives, which is why House Speaker Kevin McCarthy directed these House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry.  Keep reading below for more information about this decision made in the interest of transparency for the American people. This Week in DC

House Republicans Open Formal Impeachment Inquiry Into President Biden

Since January, House Republicans have uncovered credible allegations regarding President Biden's conduct, leading House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.  Below are four key facts we know so far:

  1. President Biden repeatedly lied to the American people when he claimed he never discussed any business with his son, Hunter Biden.
  2. President Biden was a critical player in selling ‘the brand’ to Hunter’s foreign business partners and interacted with his son’s business associates 20 times, as Devon Archer, Hunter’s business partner, testified.
  3. The Biden family made millions of dollars as a result of Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings. Bank records show more than $20 million in payments were directed to Biden family members and associates through numerous shell companies.
  4. The Biden family has been offered special treatment by the Biden administration – treatment they would not otherwise receive if they were not related to the President.

House Republicans promised to faithfully fulfill our oversight responsibilities and ensure our government is accountable to the American people.  Moving to an impeachment inquiry provides the House more tools and stronger standing to continue uncovering the facts surrounding President Biden's potential abuse of public office for his family's financial gain.  I support this decision to ensure all Americans are equipped with the truth surrounding President Biden’s knowledge of his son’s corrupt influence peddling schemes.

Celebrating National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, members of the North Carolina Trucking Association stopped by my office to highlight their strong footprint in North Carolina.  Truck drivers are responsible for moving more than 70% of all freight in the United States, and our economy and supply chain rely on their dedication and hard work.  Thank you to all our truck drivers in North Carolina and across the country!

Commitment to America Update

This past year and prior to the 2022 election, House Republicans unveiled our policy agenda, the Commitment to America.  We took the majority and as promised, during the past eight months, we have followed through on many key agenda items to place America on a stronger and better path.  As you know, passage in the House does not mean these are now law.  We have a Democrat-controlled Senate and Democrat-controlled White House and Executive branch so the vast majority of these initiatives are dead on arrival in the Senate or have been vetoed by the President, but the House has fulfilled its job.  Below you will find 23 commitments House Republicans have honored in 2023:

  1. Reopened the People’s House
  2. Ended Proxy Voting
  3. Eliminated the Military Vaccine Mandate
  4. Restored Regular Order by Requiring 72 Hours to Read a Bill
  5. Voted to Repeal Biden’s Army of IRS Agents
  6. Established the Bipartisan China Select Committee
  7. Restored Integrity to the Intelligence Committee
  8. Terminated the COVID National Emergency
  9. Voted to Stop the Selling of Our Emergency Oil Reserves to China
  10. Created a Select Committee to Expose the Truth of COVID’s Origins
  11. Acted to Block Biden’s WOTUS Rule
  12. Created a Select Committee to Stop the Weaponization of Government
  13. Nullified DC’s Soft-on-Crime Law
  14. Voted to Unleash America’s Energy Independence, the Lower Energy Costs Act  (H.R. 1)
  15. Passed the Strongest Border Security Bill in a Generation, the Secure the Border Act (H.R. 2)
  16. Voted to Give Every Parent the Right to Have a Say in Their Children’s Education, the Parents Bill of Rights (H.R. 5)
  17. Secured the Largest Deficit Reduction in History
  18. Reformed Permitting Regulations for the First Time in 40 years
  19. Enacted Welfare Work Requirements to Lift People Out of Poverty
  20. Clawed Back Billions of Taxpayer Dollars in Unspent COVID Funds
  21. Voted to Give Troops Their Biggest Pay Raise in Decades

This Week's Good News Story

For this week's good news story, I'm recognizing the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) students who are using the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Florence to assist with various community projects during the “Wings Up for Wilmington” day of service on Saturday, September 16th.  According to WECT News, "nearly 300 volunteers will work at 18 sites on projects including home repairs, landscaping, painting and planting in community gardens. The first day of service was held one year after Florence, which made landfall on Sept. 14, 2018, and caused widespread flooding and millions of dollars of damage in local communities.”  As we mark five years since Hurricane Florence devastated Southeastern North Carolina, it's encouraging to see students giving back to help our local communities thrive.  Please join me in thanking these UNCW students for their thoughtfulness and hard work!
